More PR bullshit! The Feds pulled the plug on their crappy cars & issued a DO NOT SELL order! The EU Safety agencies did the same yesterday morning! 100% shut down in 2 continents, now that's what I call "That Toyota Feeling".

U.S.: Toyota had to stop troubled production
Posted on Wednesday, January 27th, 2010 at 2:09 PM EST.
U.S. auto safety regulators said today that Toyota was legally required to stop production of eight models under recall for faulty accelerator pedals, the Detroit Free Press said.
The Japanese automaker has described its recall of 2.3 million vehicles as a voluntary move, the paper said. David Strickland, the new chief of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, said Toyota had consulted with regulators before making its move Tuesday, the Free Press said.
“Toyota’s decision was an aggressive one, and one that was the legally and morally correct thing to do,” Strickland told the paper. (Detroit Free Press)

Also saw on TV last night Ford and GM are going after Toyota owners to buy their cars.........

Seen on a GM dealership yesterday.

Just got this too:

Toyota Camry creates Drive-In Laundromat‏

Oooooooh boy…we are going to start seeing and hearing about these incidents more and more. If Toyota doesn’t ‘find the cause’ soon, they are going to be in a world of shit not seen since the Audi fiasco.

How long will it be before some of our more opportunistic members of our society start doing these kind of things intentionally in the hopes of drawing some large settlement cash? Hmmm.

Consumer Reports loses love of Toyota Sh*tboxes

Postby Larry on Sat Jan 30, 2010 10:00 am

Well, well, well... Consumer Report's Auto Editor Rik Paul has FINALLY changed his mind &their position on Toyota being the best of the best. He has stopped telling everybody that "they'll come back strong". My how a lot can change in 2 days!

Now Consumer's Union, the publisher of CR has pulled its recommendation for all of Toyota's recalled junk-heaps. They now offer tips for the sorry lot of owners on what to do if your rice-burner has runaway acceleration. (BTW, Rik the tips are INCOMPLETE!!! They fail to tell owners to HOLD the button for 3 seconds to shut the POS off.)

I still wonder why the Gov't & CR have neglected the lauded Prius from this shit storm? Same parts, same soft-ware... Hmmmm.

Seem their woes are not over. When a computer software EXPERT has issues.............

Toyota Recall Revives Industry Specter: Sudden Acceleration

This week Toyota Motor Corp. shifts its crisis management efforts from accelerator pedals that stick to the return of a familiar but elusive industry complaint: unexpected and spontaneous acceleration.

Sudden acceleration became a household phrase in 1986 when allegations of such problems nearly drove Volkswagen’s Audi brand out of the U.S. market. Regulators, unable to duplicate the problem, gently suggested the real culprit was drivers who accidentally floored the accelerator when they meant to hit the brakes.

The same term has been used to describe the phenomenon that led to Toyota’s two accelerator pedal recalls. But those campaigns address a very different issue: vehicles that are difficult to slow or stop after intentional acceleration.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration defines sudden acceleration as unintended high-power acceleration from a standstill or low speed, accompanied by an apparent loss of braking effectiveness. Some consumers and safety advocates say some Toyota owners have experienced exactly that, claiming their cars rapidly accelerated—sometimes from a full stop—when they weren’t pressing any pedals.

Yesterday Apple Inc. co-founder Steve Wozniak said his 2010 Prius hybrid sedan sometimes accelerates to as much as 97 miles per hour when he uses the cruise control to increase the car’s speed. He says feet aren’t touching the accelerator or the brake when this happens, although tapping the brake stops the acceleration. He suspects a software glitch.

Wozniak says Toyota and NHTSA didn’t seem interested when he reported the phenomenon. Unlike most drivers who report sudden acceleration, Wozniak says he can replicate the condition at will. Toyota now says its engineers will borrow Wozniak’s car for testing.

Whoopsie. Those boys & girls in Toyota Engineering might want to dig a bit deeper now...

Oh yeah, here's another gold star for that POS "golf cart" brought to you by those arrogant bastards:

from the newswires:
TOKYO – Toyota Motor Corp. has been hit by over 100 complaints in the U.S. and Japan about brake problems with the popular Prius hybrid, the latest in a spate of quality troubles for the automaker as it grapples with massive global recalls.

Good Luck!

Toyota ordered by Japan to address Prius brake complaints

Posted on Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010 at 3:22 PM EST.
Toyota Motor Corp., already grappling with recalls totaling 8.1 million vehicles on five continents, has been ordered by Japan’s Ministry of Transportation to investigate a rash of consumer complaints about braking problems in its popular third-generation Prius hybrid vehicle, the Automotive News reported.
The Japanese carmaker has received several complaints about braking in the Prius in both Japan and North America since the end of last year, Toyota spokeswoman Ririko Takeuchi told the paper. She did not say when the directive was issued or how Toyota would respond, the paper said. She also declined to give a figure for the number of complaints, but said most were filed since the end of last year, the Automotive News said.
News of the fresh investigation comes as the world’s largest automaker struggles to rein in a recall crisis aimed at fixing incidents of unintended acceleration in some of its vehicles, the paper said. (Automotive News)

Fwd: Toyota Used Ex-Regulators to Help Kill Probes

As Iococca said years ago, when it comes to business the Japanese are as cut-throat as the best and not very trustworthy.

The press has had a field day of tearing apart the domestic automakers while demonstrating a love affair of foreign cars.

I grow tired of hearing news reporters and late night show hosts parroting nonsense that if the domestic manufacturers only built cars that people wanted they would be successful.
GM and Ford build great, reliable, top quality and exciting vehicles that far exceed the foreign competitors. The Japanese and South Korean governments have long subsidized their auto industry and also place unfair tariffs on American imports. Why we don't do the same in our trade practices continues to baffle me.

Toyota spends millions lobbying Washington and also bought these ex NHTSA officials who should be jailed for their part in this atrocious cover-up, where dozens have been killed. Toyota should pay huge fines and be subject to extremely close scrutiny for their corruption. And the media should be reporting this on page 1.

Was this reported in the NY Times or on MSNBC?

Toyota Used Ex-Regulators to Help Kill Probes
By DOUGLAS MCINTYRE Posted 5:00 AM 02/12/10 Company News, Toyota

Toyota (TM) hired ex-government regulators to kill at least four investigations into problems with its cars in the U.S. That's the conclusion of an investigation by Bloomberg. The news service reports that, "Christopher Tinto, vice president of regulatory affairs in Toyota's Washington office, and Christopher Santucci, who works for Tinto, helped persuade the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to end probes including those of 2002-2003 Toyota Camrys and Solaras, court documents show. Both men joined Toyota directly from NHTSA, Tinto in 1994 and Santucci in 2003. "

The report will certainly raise more questions about how Toyota has worked behind the scenes to influence Washington as the effects of its recall of eight of its most popular models, in addition to the Prius hybrid, grow. The media has expressed concerns that Toyota may have been aware of defects but did not begin recalls in a timely fashion. The No.1 car company could be fined for its tardiness and Congress is considering a number of investigations into Toyota's behavior and whether the firm should have been more aggressive about telling its customers of trouble with accelerator problems in many of its cars.

The growing reports of Toyota's efforts to dodge safety recalls and its handling of recalls over the last month will likely cause the car maker several more headaches. The first of these is that Congressional investigations into the firm's practices will become much more aggressive. The second is that consumers will wonder whether Toyota puts the safety of drivers ahead of its own finances and reputation. The third is that a growing number of lawsuits against the company may be bolstered by any confirmation that Toyota "covered up" its knowledge of mechanical trouble with some of its models, knowingly allowing customers to drive cars with potentially dangerous flaws.

Toyota has set aside $2 billion for the recall costs and lost sales from its accelerator recall. This does not include the expenses of repairing brake problems with certain 2010 Prius models. As government officials and class action attorneys examine the facts behind Toyota's handling of its knowledge of defects in its products, the company may find itself embroiled in investigations and law suits that could grow and stretch on for years.
